My CPF payout had been held back for almost a year with no clear explanation. I came to marinaadia not knowing what the options were. The first sitting was thorough — the advocate went through every document I had and produced a written summary that made the situation much clearer to me. The representation that followed was careful and unhurried. The withholding was eventually reversed.

I came for the estate coordination service with my husband and our son. The two sittings were well organised and the advocate explained the will and lasting power of attorney in language we all understood. I had not appreciated that the CPF nomination needed to be updated separately — the firm caught that and sorted it. We left with a folder that actually makes sense.

I only wanted the initial sitting to understand whether I had any basis to challenge a decision by my former employer's pension administrator. The summary I received answered that question clearly — the advocate was candid that the basis for challenge was limited, which was useful to know. I did not proceed further, but I found the sitting well worth the cost for the clarity it provided.

My mother's estate was complicated by an old CPF nomination that had not been updated since her first marriage. The firm worked through the whole picture and explained what the nomination meant in legal terms. The estate coordination service brought together the will and the nomination in a way that actually reflected what my mother intended. Careful and patient work throughout.

The firm handled my case with a former employer who had stopped the pension payments. It took several months, and the correspondence was carefully written each time. I appreciated that nothing went out without me seeing it first. The matter was resolved without needing to go to court. I was kept informed throughout and never felt left in the dark.

I used the initial sitting to get a picture of where my pension stood after I left my employer of fifteen years. The written summary was well done — it pulled together the documents I had in a way that made sense and identified one letter I needed to request separately. The advocate was straightforward about what the options were. I will return when I am ready to take the next step.

Case Accounts

Three matters, described in outline.

Details have been adjusted to protect client confidentiality. These accounts illustrate the kinds of matters the firm handles.

Withholding Case · 2024

The difficulty

A retired civil servant had received no pension payment for seven months. The former employer's pension administrator had sent a brief letter citing an administrative review, but had not responded to the client's subsequent correspondence. The client was uncertain whether the withholding was lawful.

What the firm did

After the initial sitting, the firm reviewed the legislative basis for the withholding and concluded it was not well-founded. A series of carefully worded letters were sent to the administrator, each approved by the client before dispatch. When the administrator failed to respond adequately, a formal submission was prepared and filed.

The outcome

The withholding was reversed within six weeks of the formal submission. The client received all arrears. The matter concluded within four months of the initial sitting. Total cost was as stated in the cost agreement: SGD 455.

Estate Coordination · 2025

The difficulty

An elderly client had a will prepared some years earlier that did not account for a significant CPF balance accumulated after the will was made. The CPF nomination had not been updated to reflect the client's current intentions. There was a risk that a meaningful portion of the estate would pass contrary to those intentions.

What the firm did

The two-sitting estate coordination service was used. At the first sitting, the gap between the will and the CPF nomination was explained clearly to the client and family. At the second, a revised will and an updated nomination were executed, and a lasting power of attorney was prepared and signed. All three documents were explained in the sessions.

The outcome

The client left with a folder containing the signed will, the registered lasting power of attorney, and confirmation of the updated CPF nomination — all consistent with their stated intentions. Two sittings over three weeks. SGD 320.

Pension Mooring Sitting · 2025

The difficulty

A client approaching retirement was uncertain whether the pension calculation provided by a former employer's scheme was correct. She had a collection of scheme documents and payslips spanning fifteen years but no clear understanding of how the entitlement figure had been reached.

What the firm did

The initial sitting was used to go through the scheme documents, the service record, and the calculation. The advocate identified the formula used and worked through whether it had been applied correctly, noting two points that warranted further information from the scheme administrator.

The outcome

The written summary set out the calculation basis, the two points to pursue, and a suggested letter to send to the administrator. The client chose to pursue those points herself using the summary as a guide. The sitting cost SGD 180 and took 75 minutes.
